On Friday 8th May our U11s took part in the ISFA South East Football Tournament. The girls arrived a little nervous but absolutely determined, knowing that only the top two teams would earn a golden ticket to the National Finals at St George’s Park.

St Michael's kicked things off with a tense 1-0 win over Ardingly School, thanks to some great shot stopping by Abbie L in goal and Tara W calmly slotting home. Confidence grew and in the second match against Great Walstead School the girls produced some lovely passing football, winning 1-0 again with Tara W grabbing the winner.

Next came Cumnor House School which our girls battled bravely. Sophia E and Ella D displayed strong tackling supported brilliantly by Darcey B, but despite the effort they slipped to a 0-2 defeat. Channing School followed, another nail-biter ending 1-1, with Elodie B smashing home from the penalty spot.

With three games left, the maths was simple: win them all or start planning the journey home. The girls responded brilliantly. First came a 3-0 victory over St Cedd’s School with Ayla A scoring twice and Elodie B adding another. Then a superb 3-0 win over Blackheath, with Ellie S covering every blade of grass in midfield and scoring two, while Ayla A added the third.

By the final match, the girls were running on fumes and went 0-1 down to Royal Russell School. However, they dug deep and Louisa R produced a moment of pure magic, scoring from the halfway line. Not to be outdone, Elodie B popped up with the winner to seal a 2-1 triumph.

When the dust settled, St Michael’s finished joint second but missed out on qualification on goal difference. The girls were heartbroken and who could blame them after such an incredible effort.

Commenting on the team's efforts, Director of Sport at St Michael's, Steve Brightman said: "It was a joy to watch the girls grow in belief, confidence and teamwork throughout the tournament. Every single one of them made the school proud. Well done girls, what a journey."
