St Michael’s Prep is an inclusive school, serving a wide range of abilities.
We are passionate about ensuring every child reaches their potential and understand that sometimes children need differing levels of support or challenge during their education. All our staff aim to meet the needs of the full range of abilities in our school and use a wealth of experience, including high quality multisensory teaching strategies, to ensure every child can flourish.
Our Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator works with teachers to ensure that children are challenged and stretched in their learning. We believe in every child making progress for their personal starting point. Children who are identified as Gifted and Talented are invited to Challenge Club where they explore ideas, strategies and their approach to solving a problem.
Our Head of Learning Development, Sarah Gent, works closely with teachers to assess the needs of children who may benefit from extra help beyond high quality teaching. The Learning Development Department run a range of morning interventions (before school and during some assemblies) which pupils are invited to attend. These interventions cover the four broad areas of need:
If you think that your child may benefit from some support in a particular area, please do make an appointment to see Mrs Gent who is always pleased to work with parents and pupils to move things forward. Any plans to consult professionals such as an Educational Psychologist should be discussed with Mrs Gent before an appointment is booked.
