St Michael’s Swim School runs our curriculum Swimming lessons for pupils in Years 1 to 8 as well as managing our successful extra-curricular club.
Run by our Swim School Manager, children receive tailored teaching, helping them to improve their water confidence, ability and technique. Our Swimming lessons aim to develop an enjoyment of swimming in our children which will aid their health, safety and wellbeing throughout their lives.
Our Swim School also operates every day after school and offers a variety of classes to accommodate a wide range of swimmers’ needs and interests. From following the ASA’s ‘Learn to Swim’ programme to intense squad training, there is a class suitable for every child.
All of our Swimming Teachers are fully ASA qualified and bring a wealth of experience to St Michael’s Prep. With links to other swim clubs including Sevenoaks, our Swim School provides a fantastic start to your child’s swimming journey and will guide and encourage all children to achieve their full swimming potential.

In group lessons, our Swimming teachers follow the ASA’s ‘Learn to Swim’ programme: a national swimming qualification in which children progress through various stages, focusing on the four basic swimming strokes.
Children are grouped in ability classes of between 4 and 8 which are fun, supportive and help to encourage some competition to inspire children to challenge themselves.
Badges of recognition are awarded when a child achieves one of the ASA stages.
Group lessons are available 5 days a week after school during term time.
If your child needs one-to-one or two-to-one support in the water, we can offer them private swimming lessons. These lessons cater for children who have specific learning or medical needs and need extra support and guidance in the water.
Private lessons also follow the ASA ‘Learn to Swim’ Programme but are tailored to each child’s specific needs as the child has the full attention of the Swimming teacher. This allows them to progress at their own pace, knowing they are fully supported throughout their lesson.
Once a child’s confidence has grown and they feel comfortable in the water, they are able to progress to a group class. This means children can swim with peers of the same ability, encouraging a sense of competition and enjoyment within the class to challenge themselves to reach their full potential.
Private lessons are available 5 days a week after school during term time.
St Michael’s Swim School currently runs six swim squads. One is an invite-only, early-morning top squad for children who swim competitively or aim to do so. This squad is an intensive, one hour, weekly session, focusing on creating great swimmers. Children must be disciplined and willing to work hard in order to achieve their full potential. Top squad is run by our Swim School Manager who strives to challenge and stretch the swimmers to enable them to perform at their best. There is also a junior and senior swim squad which run on specific days after school during term time.
Adult swimming sessions are available to St Michael’s parents and incorporate triathletes, masters and those who wish to improve their general health and fitness. All abilities are welcome and all swimmers receive personalised swimming advice and guidance. Sessions include drills, targets and individual length swimming.
Adult swimming sessions run on Monday mornings, 8.30-9.30am during term time.
