Year 6

Year 6 IOW

The Year 6 trip to the Isle of Wight was a great way to round off the year. Pupils took part in a full programme of outdoor activities, including kayaking, paddle‑boarding, windsurfing and keel‑boating. Everyone had the chance to try something new, work together and build confidence on the water.

Evenings were relaxed and enjoyable, giving pupils time to unwind and spend time with friends after busy days outdoors. The accommodation was comfortable, the food was good and the group approached every activity with enthusiasm.

As the week came to an end, it marked an important moment for the year group. Some pupils will now move on to senior schools, while others will continue their St Michael’s journey into Years 7 and 8. The trip provided a fitting finish to their time in Year 6 and plenty of memories to take with them.

Year 8

Year 8 IOW

The Year 8 trip to the Isle of Wight was an incredibly valuable experience. We had a wonderful time and being a small year group meant that we were treated to less common experiences like a night out into Cowes and a restaurant on the Thursday evening. The water sports and wet activities were definitely a high point, including keel-boating, wind surfing, paddle boarding and kayaking; it was all a great experience. The accommodation did not let us down as we were staying on the new area, and we even had a room to watch TV - the England vs Croatia game was fun to watch even if we were a bit loud. Overall, the trip was a fitting end to our time at St Michael’s and we will keep the memories we made forever.

The Isle of Wight residential visit was one of the most memorable and fun trips I have ever been on at St Michael’s. We did so many exciting activities that you could never be bored and if you didn’t like being wet that much, we did dry activities in the evenings as well.

We are a small year group and that comes with its perks so we got to go out into Cowes one night and have a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant. We then went down to the beach at sunset and ate some sweets.

Personally, my favourite activity was dingy boat sailing because there was so much wind that we almost capsized about 10 times!

Everything about it was great - even the food was top notch. I was worried that after spending a long time doing wind surfing or something like that, I would be very hungry and the food wouldn’t be nice but how wrong I was!
