St Michael’s  is proud to announce that it has been awarded both the WilderKent Bronze Award and the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Merit, recognising its commitment to protecting nature, promoting sustainability and engaging pupils in environmental action. 

Achieving the WilderKent Bronze Award in its first year of applying is a significant milestone for the school. Kent Wildlife Trust praised St Michael’s tree-planting initiatives, visits to local nature reserves, commitment to outdoor learning and beautiful grounds, while also recognising its recycling efforts, composting and transition to energy-efficient LED lighting.

In July, the school also retained its Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Merit. Eco-Schools judges praised the way environmental responsibility is embedded throughout the school community, describing how the “ripples of success are moving across the school” as more pupils and staff become involved in sustainability projects. The report highlighted St Michael’s continued focus on biodiversity and litter reduction, alongside initiatives including wildlife photography, climate change debates, water-saving measures, litter-picking activities and beekeeping education.

These awards reflect the enthusiasm, commitment and hard work of our pupils, staff and Eco Committees who are passionate about making a positive difference to the environment. We are incredibly proud of the sustainable culture that continues to flourish across our school community."

These achievements reflect St Michael’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and sustainability, helping pupils develop the knowledge and values needed to become responsible global citizens.
