St Michael’s Prep School is proud to announce that it has been awarded the WilderKent Bronze Award, recognising its commitment to protecting and restoring nature, engaging pupils in environmental action and reducing carbon emissions.
Achieving the award in its first year of applying is a significant milestone for the school and reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of pupils, staff and the Eco Committee.
Kent Wildlife Trust praised the school's tree-planting initiatives, visits to local nature reserves and commitment to outdoor learning. Assessors also highlighted St Michael’s beautiful grounds, including its garden area with raised beds and commended the active involvement of the school's Eco Committee. The Trust further recognised the recycling of pens, use of compost heaps and transition to energy-efficient LED lighting as examples of the school's commitment to sustainability.
Katharine Lambert and Naomi Rose, Environment and Sustainability Leads at St Michael’s, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have achieved the WilderKent Bronze Award. As this was our first year applying, it is especially rewarding to see the hard work and commitment of our Eco Committees recognised in this way. Our pupils are passionate about making a positive difference and this award reflects their dedication to caring for the environment and embracing sustainable practices across our school community."
Kent Wildlife Trust described St Michael’s as being "off to a strong start" and encouraged the school to continue building on its success through further wildlife-focused projects and community engagement, with a view to progressing towards the Silver WilderKent Award in the future.
This latest achievement reflects St Michael’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and sustainability, inspiring pupils to become dedicated global citizens.
