News - 14 October

St Michael's U11A boys travelled to Ashford on Wednesday 14th October for the IAPS Regional 7-a-Side Football Tournament. With a squad of 10 eager players full of anticipation and excitement for the day ahead, the boys were ready to test themselves against some strong opposition.

Our opening match against Bede's School proved to be a tough start. Both teams played some excellent passing football and there was very little between the sides. The boys worked tirelessly for one another and showed great determination to secure a deserved 2-0 victory, with goals from Fadil A and Rafi O.

The second game against Bickley Park School was another closely contested affair. Once again, both teams moved the ball well, but Bickley Park took one of their chances and managed to hold on for a narrow win.

The boys responded brilliantly and produced an outstanding attacking display against Wellesley Prep School, running out convincing 7-0 winners. Fadil A led the way with four goals, while Arthur G added a superb hat-trick.

This excellent performance secured qualification for the knockout stages, where the boys faced Sutton Valence School in the Quarter- Final. Demonstrating great teamwork, discipline and composure, the St Michael's boys produced another impressive display to win 2-0, thanks to goals from Fadil A and Cayden R.

The Semi-Final against Eaton House School was an extremely tight and competitive contest. Despite battling for every ball and creating several opportunities, the boys found themselves 1-0 behind. They dominated the closing stages of the match and pushed relentlessly for an equaliser, but unfortunately the elusive goal would not come.

That result meant a place in the 3rd-place play-off, where fate paired us once again with Bickley Park. After another evenly matched encounter, the game went to penalties. Showing tremendous calm under pressure, our boys converted all three of their spot-kicks. The decisive moment came from Matthew D who produced a world-class save to seal victory and secure an excellent 3rd-place finish.

A huge well done to all of the boys on a fantastic effort. Throughout the tournament they displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship and humility. They represented the school superbly and we are incredibly proud of the character that they showed, both in victory and defeat. Congratulations, boys!
