St Michael's was delighted to welcome members of Otford Primary, Sevenoaks Primary and St Thomas' Catholic Primary School for a day of music making as part of our Orchestra Day on Friday 2nd May.
Pupils and teachers from the schools joined musical forces to learn and perform fun and challenging pieces of music on a range of instruments.
Leading the Orchestra Day was Jack Bennett, Peripatetic Music Teacher at St Michael's Prep School, who arranged the musical score for the day as well as conducting the orchestra. The four schools rehearsed both as a full orchestra and instrumental groups to master their sections in preparation for an afternoon performance to teachers and parents.
Commenting on the success of the event, Director of Music at St Michael's Prep School, Gordon Baird said: "Orchestra Day brought together local pupils with a passion for music. The children worked collaboratively to learn new pieces together, displaying excellent teamwork and a real sense of achievement throughout the day. Not only did the orchestra produce some incredible sounds, but it was clear that some special memories and friendships between the schools were made. Thank you to all of the pupils and teachers who joined us and worked so hard throughout the day."
Michelle Carlton, Music Teacher at St Thomas' Catholic Primary School added: "Thank you for an amazing day today. The children felt so welcomed and it was such a valuable experience for them. Thank you for a fantastic musical day!".
