On Friday 26th September, 36 eager St Michael's runners proudly represented our school across three age groups (U9, U11 and U13) at the annual Thomas Trophy Cross Country event. With over 450 young athletes running through Knole Park, the competition was fierce, the hills were tough and the atmosphere was electric.
Thankfully, the weather was on its best behaviour. Our U9s kicked things off with gusto. Year 4’s Raphael O set a blistering pace and with 300m to go, he ran even faster than before and stormed home in 3rd place, earning a well-deserved bronze medal. Year 3 runner Ruben S, who showed grit and determination beyond his years, was not far behind him. The U9 girls weren’t about to be outdone either; Willow C and Harriet R ran with heart and determination, proving that small legs can conquer big hills.
Next up, our U11s took to the course with quiet confidence. Zach R ran a clever, composed race, finishing in 3rd place and bagging another bronze for the St Michael’s medal cabinet, well done Zach. Grace L and Saskia E also had strong performances, showing that stamina and style can go hand in hand.
The U13 races were a masterclass in speed and stamina, with several seasoned club runners setting a blistering pace. However, our St Michael’s team didn’t flinch. They gritted their teeth, dug deep and tackled the tough 3.2km course with admirable tenacity. Grace P, Hugo M and Kayla F all delivered standout performances.
