Our Art, Craft and Design Department is a vibrant and creative environment where pupils can explore their creativity and express their ideas in visually impressive ways.
Our lessons cultivate critical enquiry and provide pupils with a strong set of technical skills which enable them to achieve aesthetic goals.
Prep pupils utilise a wide range of 2D and 3D materials, tools and techniques including traditional, contemporary and experimental styles. Emphasis is placed on developing creativity, craftsmanship and confidence, allowing them to reflect on and express individual feelings.
Together we explore the work, ideas and meanings of many artists, crafts people and designers from different times, cultures and the natural world. We help our pupils to learn about and appreciate the functions of art, craft, and design in their own lives and others’.
Our exciting Art, Craft and Design curriculum is complemented by the opportunity for all pupils to attend a variety of extra-curricular clubs where they can learn and improve practical skills or simply enjoy being a part of our creative environment. Pupils explore skills such as ceramics, mosaic, drawing and painting, printmaking, pewter casting, glass fusion and textile design in these sessions.
Year 7 and 8 Art Scholars follow an enriched programme of extra-curricular, practical activities where they strengthen their critical thinking through in depth exploration of artists, cultures, materials and techniques. Scholars are encouraged to be more imaginative and experimental in their approach to art and to produce work that is both expressive, original and skilful. The pupils quickly become independent learners who are confident in taking risks and expressing aspects of the world in which they live.
