Prep Music

At St Michael’s Prep School we encourage pupils to achieve musical excellence through enjoyment and fun at all levels throughout the school.

The Music Department is a busy, vibrant and integral part of life at St Michael’s and class music is taught by specialists in well-equipped, dedicated music classrooms with Mac computers and keyboards. Games and practical activities provide focus for our pupils to compose, improvise, perform and listen with increasing confidence and understanding.

Our highly qualified team of peripatetic teachers caters for around 250 instrumental and vocal lessons each week and leads many performing ensembles to give every child the opportunity to be involved in group music making.

Termly concerts afford all pupils the valuable opportunity to perform to an audience and the European Music Tour is one of the highlights of our school calendar. We also hold a House Music Competition which see soloists, groups and whole houses go head to head to be crowned winners by a visiting guest judge, which has recently included the Director of West End musical, Frozen.
