At St Michael’s Prep School we are passionate about approaching History as a living subject which helps children to understand today’s society.
Our History curriculum combines a breadth of historical periods with the opportunity for deeper analysis within particular topics.
As pupils move up the school, we encourage more independent learning with a focus on research using both primary and secondary evidence whilst promoting the questioning of established theories in historiography.
We highlight key historical events through assemblies and themed days to build excitement for the subject. The children enjoy a number of trips each year and are encouraged to experience the subject through Drama, Music and Art. We also complete cross-curricular study with subjects including English and Religious Studies.
Years 3 and 4 have weekly Humanities lessons combining the concepts of History and Geography, whilst children in Years 5 to 8 have individual subject lessons with specialist teachers. Years 7 and 8 complete the St Michael’s Diploma.
We want our children to love History and to gain an appreciation of its importance both today and in developing our future.
