Rugby

Back

At St Michael’s Prep School we believe the value of rugby extends far beyond the pitch.

Our boys learn how to deal with setbacks in defeat and how to win with grace. By being part of a St Michael’s Prep rugby team, they develop attributes such as: self-discipline, respect, communication skills, leadership, honesty, courage, hardwork and teamwork.

Our rugby curriculum promotes the key pillars of Discipline, Respect, Teamwork, Enjoyment and Sportsmanship. We encourage the game to be played as a team where every player’s contribution is understood and valued.

We encourage pupils to develop at a pace that they are comfortable with in a safe environment where growth mindset is key. Emphasis is placed on development rather than results as all teachers, coaches and pupils believe that if all players progress, positive results are likely to follow.

Boys rugby

At St Michael’s Prep, children can reach their full potential through a wide-ranging rugby programme. Lessons are player-centred and in taught in line with the RFU age grade pathway. We include video analysis combined with peer assessment to enhance the pupils’ understanding of key techniques. Players are encouraged to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses and produce ideas for improvement. During the rugby season, those wishing to progress their skills can attend the after school session run by St Michael’s School of Sport, led by minimum level two rugby coaches.

We are proud of our pupils’ enjoyment of rugby and confidence when participating in rugby session and matches. All boys represent the school in weekly fixtures and when appropriate, enter inter school rugby tournaments. We have close links with Sevenoaks Rugby Club where many of our boys and girls represent teams in various age groups.

At St Michael's Prep School, we strive to provide a supportive and enriching environment for children to pursue their rugby aspirations.
