At St Michael's Prep School, we believe in the importance of swimming as a vital life skill, a means of promoting physical fitness and an avenue for personal growth and achievement.
Our thriving swimming programme is an integral part of our school community, nurturing children from an early age and guiding them to reaching their full potential in the water.
We recognise the significance of swimming as a fundamental life skill, therefore incorporating the sport into our Physical Education curriculum in the Michaelmas (winter) and Lent (spring) Terms, beginning in Year 1 and continuing through to Year 8. This early introduction to swimming ensures that every child has the opportunity to develop essential aquatic skills and water safety knowledge.
Our Years 3 to 8 boys’ and girls’ swimming teams participate in various events throughout the year. From local galas to interhouse competitions and the prestigious annual IAPS competition, our swimmers test their skills and compete at different levels.
The school is equipped with a 25-meter pool featuring four lanes dedicated solely to swimming activities. This purpose-built facility provides a fantastic environment for training and skill development. Before school hours, our competition swimmers receive specialised coaching and an extra practice session to enhance their technique and performance. Our dedicated Swim School Manager ensures each child receives personalised attention and guidance to help them excel in the water.
St Michael’s Prep also runs its very own Swim School every day after school. This comprehensive program includes learn-to-swim classes as well as squad training sessions. The primary focus is to cultivate confidence and ensure progression whilst developing stroke technique and stamina.
Through our comprehensive swimming programme, we provide children with the tools, guidance and opportunities necessary to develop their skills, embrace a healthy lifestyle and foster a lifelong love of swimming. Our goal is to help each child feel confident, capable and safe in the water whilst nurturing their abilities and inspiring them to reach their full potential as swimmers.
