Athletics

At St Michael’s Prep School the Trinity (summer) Term is filled with athletics.

Our beautiful grounds, including a 200m running track, high jump and throwing areas and two long jump pits, offer the ideal location to train, compete and spectate athletics.

Athletics lessons at St Michael’s Prep give children knowledge of all events as well as opportunities to practise and improve their times and distances. Our inclusive approach to sport means all pupils engage in track and field events.

Our after school athletics activities give pupils more time to improve their techniques with the expert guidance of our specialist Physical Education teachers.

We introduce age appropriate athletics events at each stage of the St Michael’s Prep journey and focus on both the pupils’ technique and enjoyment of sport. We believe pupils of all standards can find an athletics event to practise purposefully and have fun with.

Many of our athletes take part in meetings against other schools and some represent St Michael’s Prep at the Kent Championships which is held annually at a local athletics track. Success at this meeting leads our athletes to represent the region at the National Championships which several of our pupils have done.

Every summer we hold a Prep Sports Day which parents are invited to watch. This is an inclusive event where all pupils take part, representing their school house. The children take part in four events – three chosen by themselves and one compulsory race. Some pupils also take part in the relay. Sports Day is highly competitive and enjoyed by the whole St Michael’s community.
